This week, third-year students from the Italian University of Gastronomic Sciences (also known as the Slow Food University) visited the Achterhoek. We put together a nice program for them, during which they visited various artisans and producers in the Achterhoek.
On day 1 they visited Stadsboerin Doetinchem and from the project ‘Gezond het Jaarrond’ they visited Zorgboerderij Slangenburg with Arthur Dammers. Then they went on a safari through a Dutch supermarket with expert Maurits Steverink. To conclude, they were treated to a delicious dinner at Restaurant Lokaal. We thank Gemeente Doetinchem and Peter Jansen for the kind welcome.

On day 2, visits to De Goed Gevulde, IJsboerderij de Steenoven and Wijngoed Montferland were on the program. Andre Brouwer and Geert van Veenendaal of Slow Food Achterhoek also joined to get acquainted with the students.
The students were particularly impressed with the Achterhoekse Culatello di Zibello – made by champion butcher Van Broekhuizen from the pigs of De Goed Gevulde – and the wine from Wijngoed Montferland. They didn’t expect that we could make that here. So their appeal was to offer the knowledge and expertise of Achterhoek producers and the information about special Achterhoek products online also in English.

Special thanks to Elisa Talpo, who organized this excursion and dared to come to the Achterhoek (instead of just visiting the Randstad).
